A family story

KOLIBRI SOCKS offers premium quality socks and tights made from natural and ecological fibers for all the family and all the occasions of the daily life (work, relaxation, sport ...).

KOLIBRI is the story of an encounter between two people, two cultures embodied by Ana and Nicolas, and the same family tradition: that of the textile industry.

Nicolas comes from a working class family in the North of France 🇫🇷, most of whose members worked in the textile industry until the middle of the 20th century. Nicolas is reviving this ancestral family tradition by bringing him his vision, his modernity and ecological values.

Ana is from Ecuador 🇪🇨, his family has been making since 1985, in the small town of Otavalo, socks and tights known across South America for their hight quality.

Kolibri is a family story that began in 1982 with the creation by Vicente García of Colección de Medias Cris, a store selling socks in which was marketed mainly the product that his father, Segundo García, a pioneer of the hosiery industry in Ecuador, manufactured under the brand Calcetines Vichito.

This store quickly became a sourcing center for socks that were woven in small workshops of Otavalo and that Vicente García took care of selling nationally.

From 1985, Vicente began to manufacture his own socks and offered the Ecuadorian market his avant-garde vision to innovate the hosiery industry by proposing new creative designs and selecting materials first exclusives to position its brand as a synonym of excellence.

KOLIBRI is the expression of two family traditions that come together to offer you socks made of natural and ecological quqlity fibers, designed in France and made in Ecuador.

We contribute to socio-economic development within a relatively small local community (that of the Otavalos, one of the indigenous peoples of Ecuador, belonging to the Kichwa nationality). This activity generates internal and external jobs which improve the quality of life of many local families and their environment.

KOLIBRI SOCKS refers to the bird known as hummingbird or fly bird. This small bird with bright and picturesque colors is present only on the American continent, mainly in Latin America and more particularly in Ecuador, country which has the greatest concentration of hummingbird species in the world. Our brand is inspired by the delicacy of its flight and the elegance of the colors of its feathers.

KOLIBRI also takes its name from a Native American legend:

" One day, says the legend, there was a huge forest fire. All the terrified, dismayed animals watched the disaster helplessly Only the little hummingbird was active, fetching a few drops with its beak to throw them on the fire. After a moment, the armadillo, annoyed by this ridiculous agitation, said to it : "Hummingbird! You're not crazy ? You're not going to put out the fire with these drops of water! "And the hummingbird replied:" I know, but I'm doing my part. "

KOLIBRI aims to act, at its level, in the construction of an ecological and human society. We believe that everyone can do their part to build this society.
